Liverpool eyes Shalke 04 talent Ozan Kabak

Liverpool is interested in signing the young Turkish center-back Ozan Kabak. He is currently playing for Shalke 04. The German team is having terrible season so far and is last in the Bundesliga with only 4 points after 13 games.

Kabak has been valued for around 25 million euro, but the rumored sum Liverpool is going to pay is around 20 million or exchange for the forward Divock Origi. If successful The Reds will beat AC Milan, whose been interested in Kabak since the summer. Kabak’s personal comments indicate that he is more interested in playing for AC Milan and denied earlier rumors of pre-agreement with Liverpool.

If signed the Turkish national would be of great help for Liverpool defense as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are with lasting injuries and their return date is currently unknown. The problems with lack of center-backs are serious as only option for manager Jurgen Klopp left is Joel Matip. Last game defensive midfielder Fabinho was forced to partner with Matip as center-backs.

Kabak’s playing style is closer to that of van Dijk as he is capable to retain and pass the ball with skill and has strong physique needed to dominate the center-back position. His skill with the ball gives him good versatility to play to the sides or in front of the defense if needed.

So far this season Ozan Kabak has 8 games for Shalke 04 as he missed 3 matches due to suspension for a red card against RB Leipzig in October.
