Liverpool out of FA Cup after 2-3 loss to Manchester United

Liverpool lost to Manchester United 2-3 in a spectacular match of the 4th round of the FA Cup. The two teams played a very even game, but in the end the Red devils triumphed at Old Trafford. At the beginning of the second half Marcus Rashford gave a lead to United, but Salah equalized in the 58th minute. The final result was marked by Bruno Fernandes in the 78th minute after clinical free kick from 20 meters.

The defeat will definitely deepen the crisis for Liverpool, who entered with five games without a victory in the Premier League.

In the 3rd minute, Wijnaldum’s shot was blocked by McTominay. Eight minutes later, Greenwood found himself in a scoring position, but Alisson saved. In the 18th minute Firmino’s through ball between Shaw and Maguire found Salah behind the defense. The Egyptian very technically chipped Dean Henderson, giving advantage for the champions 1-0.

United equalized in the 26th minute. Pogba took the ball from Firmino in front of Unted’s penalty area, after which the Frenchman was fouled, but Pawson gave an advantage. The ball reached Rashford, who found Greenwood with a great long pass. The youngster took the ball and with a nice shot on the diagonal scored for 1-1.

Three minutes after half time Manchester United made a complete turnaround, taking advantage of a blunder by Rhys Williams. The young defender failed to intercept a pass from Greenwood, who led Rashford alone against the goalkeeper and the English national made no mistake for 1-2.

Liverpool responded appropriately. In the 58th minute, James Milner missed a great chance at few meters alone against Henderson. Only a minute later, however, it was Milner who intersepted Cavani’s pass and immediately continued the ball to Firmino, who returned back to him. The experienced midfielder missed cleverly for Salah, who made 2-2.

Despite the dominance of Liverpool, the center of the defense failed the champions. Fabinho fouled Cavani right in front of the penalty area. Bruno Fernades directed the ball into the keeper’s corner, where Alisson was also not positioned well and failed to intervene – 2-3.

In the 89th minute, Cavani’s header hit the crossbar, and in added time Salah had the last chance, but his shot was wide.

In the next round of the race, the Red Devils will face West Ham. Liverpool, on the other hand, have a very tough visit to Tottenham on Thursday in a match of the Premier League.
