Wijnaldum time on Anfield running out?

English champions Liverpool have offered a new contract to midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum. The current agreement of the Dutch footballer expires in the summer of 2021.

According to The Guardian, in early December Liverpool offered to extend the contract, but the player replied that he needed some time to consider the situation. He has promised to notify Liverpool of his decision before starting talks with other clubs if he decides to leave anyway.

This season 30 year old Georginio Wijnaldum played in 15 Premier League games and 5 Champions League games. The Dutchman moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2016 from Newcastle and won with The Reds the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the Premiership and the World Club Championship.

During the suspension of football in the spring Wijnaldum was touted as sure deal to Barcelona.

He will decide by the end of the week whether to sign a new contract with the Reds. The current one is until the end of the season. From January 1, he can negotiate with other clubs.

Jurgen Klopp wants to keep the 30-year-old football player in his squad at all cost. When asked if Wijnaldum would renew his contract Klopp answared: “We have a pretty good relationship, so I hope so.”
